Museum Students Organization (MSO)

The Museum Students Organization (MSO) is a graduate student group that serves as an interface between students and the Museum Studies Program administration, establishes and maintains a network between alumni and museum professionals, and encourages students to become active members of the museum community.

MSO organizes presentations and workshops led by professionals in the museum world. Past programs include workshops on accessibility-focused programming, archival box making and bookbinding, along with presentations by Judith Koke, the former director of education and interpretive programs at the Nelson-Atkins Museum.

Future programs will include workshops on exhibit design technologies and grant writing, and we are working to establish a seminar series with key museum professionals in the area.

MSO also organizes field trips, where students can receive behind-the-scenes tours to understand how different museums operate. Past field trips include the Field Museum in Chicago, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson, Union Station exhibits in Kansas City, Missouri, City Museum in St. Louis, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
