Biography —
Shannon Gicker (she/her) is a current MA student in the Museum Studies Program at the University of Kansas. With an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and professional experience working in museum education, her research interests are rooted in public archaeology. Specifically, Shannon is interested in highlighting the archaeological misconceptions present in the American public and harnessing informal education spaces, such as museums, to address these limiting beliefs. Shannon’s approach is greatly informed by her professional values of accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity in museums and heritage. *(bonus/personal detail) Shannon believes in prioritizing mindful practices in order to be successful in her studies. For her, this looks like spending time with her dog, Smokey, and enjoying an iced latte at a local coffee shop.
