Biography

Phil Cunningham is, for better or worse, a Kansan. He earned his B.A. in history at Kansas State University and his MLIS from Pratt Institute (NY). He serves as the curator of the Kansas Collection at KU's Spencer Research Library. Prior to coming to KU in 2023, he has worked and interned at the Amistad Research Center in New Orleans (2015-2022), the Gilder-Lehrman Collection in New York (2015) and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem (2014). His professional duties and research focus on artifact storytelling, highlighting underrepresented stories through archives, ancestor work and physical collections as data.
